San Antonio artist Xavier Garza is both a visual artist and a writer who works with subject matters such as cultural icons, the Virgin Mary, El Cucui, El Huevo, refried beans and flour tortillas, and of course, Mexican Wrestling. "The Mexican Lucha Libra legend, Mil Mascaras, applies La Tabla Marina to his opponent. Lucha Libre and its wrestlers are like a religion in Mexico. Its 'bigger than life' characters are deeply embedded in Mexican Pop culture." Garza received his B.F.A. from the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg. |
